📖 Cinema as resistance and thought

Through a screening program devoted to his films, the exhibition examines an artistic body of work created during a period defined by state censorship and the lack of political freedoms. In those circumstances, cinema became an essential tool to reveal what was kept out of frame and challenge established constraints.

Portabella has consistently worked outside the margins of commercial industry and conventional formats. His films bypass linear storytelling to open up spaces for critical reading and reflection, linking the image to gestures of clandestine action, resistance, and the exposure of what remains concealed.

🏛️ Centenary and memory at MACBA

The presentation strengthens the constellation of moving image practices conserved in the permanent collection of the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona. «Acció Portabella» commemorates the 100th birthday of a filmmaker fundamental to modern political and artistic avant-gardes.

ℹ️ Good to know: The museum is closed on non-holiday Tuesdays. Online tickets feature a discounted rate compared to ticket counter purchases.

✨ A unique chance to experience the political vigor and poetic radicalism of an uncompromising cinema.
