📖 Aurèlia Muñoz and the Conquest of Space
Originally conceived in 1982, the pieces in "Ocells-estels" were created to hang at great heights and converse directly with natural light. The display in the Meier Building atrium faithfully mirrors those intentions, letting the forms soar above visitors to expand interior space.
In 1982, the artist presented this series at the Palacio de Cristal in Madrid and at the Drassanes Reials in Barcelona, before it was selected for the 11th International Biennial of Tapestry in Lausanne in 1983. Following their stay at MACBA, the sculptures will travel to various points across Catalonia.
🎨 The Aurèlia Muñoz Centenary
The presentation forms part of the Year of Aurèlia Muñoz commemoration, honoring a visionary creator whose work bridged textile craft, architecture, and contemporary sculpture.
ℹ️ Good to know: Closed on non-holiday Tuesdays. Admission: €12 at ticket desk, €10.80 online, and €10.20 off-peak (free for MACBA Friends).
