📖 Dialogue between two masters of horror

The exhibition brings together around eighty etchings from Goya's iconic series 'The Disasters of War', executed between 1810 and 1816, facing Helnwein's eponymous series begun in 2007. Through paintings and mixed techniques, the contemporary artist examines violence, exploitation, and the destruction of childhood.

Between Goya's raw realism and Helnwein's hyperrealistic theatricality, the display explores our visual culture in the digital age, raising crucial questions: when is it legitimate to portray horror, and what happens when brutality turns into pure spectacle?

🎨 Pop iconography and contemporary vision

Where Goya risked everything during the Inquisition, Helnwein responds to an urgent inner drive. His large-scale works integrate comic strip elements, manga girls, and pop culture figures like Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse, confronting viewers face-to-face with open eyes.

ℹ️ Good to know: Reduced admission is €10, and entry is free for children under 10 years old. Closed on Mondays.

✨ An essential exhibition that questions how human suffering is witnessed across two centuries of art history.
