📖 Psychological exploration and post-war avant-garde

A painter, poet, and art critic, Josep Maria de Sucre anticipated neo-expressionist approaches through an insightful exploration of human psychology. His faces, masks, and portraits serve as spaces of disturbing expressive intensity that engage viewers directly.

The exhibition pays tribute to his artistic output and his crucial role as a spiritual patron for the early post-war generation. Alongside his works, the display brings together pieces by around thirty Catalan artists who revived the avant-garde spirit halted by the Civil War, reconnecting with international movements through Paris stays supported by the Institut Français.

🎨 The artist and his time

An essential figure in twentieth-century Catalan art, Sucre built a decisive bridge between republican-era artists and emerging creators. This exhibition offers a chance to rediscover his sensitive vision and his influential work as a major cultural catalyst.

✨ A unique opportunity to delve into a key figure of post-war Catalan art.
