📖 The sublime art of Jaume Pahissa
The performance offers a musical encounter between the bronze bells and the voice of tenor Jordi Mas. The recital focuses on works by composer Jaume Pahissa, ranging from delicate ballads and art songs to operatic pages, arranged for this singular government house carillon.
🏛️ A historic instrument in the seat of government
The present carillon at the Palau was inaugurated in December 1976 through the efforts of carillonneur M. Dolors Coll, who received the Creu de Sant Jordi in 2000. It replaced a smaller instrument from 1927. Built in the Netherlands by Petit & Fritsen, it comprises 49 bells weighing a total of 4,898 kg of bronze. The bourdon bell weighs 905 kg and bears the name 'Catalunya'. Following a restoration in December 1991, Eijsbouts renewed its keyboards in October 2015.
ℹ️ Good to know: Registration closes on the Friday before the concert.
