📖 Dramatic chronicle and raw imagery
Òpera Popular de Barcelona presents this Carmen as the chronicle of a homicide and the violent murder of a woman. Drawing inspiration from Luis Buñuel's imagery, the staging captures the harsh ambiance of the Ramblas tablaos and the brothels of Francoist Barcelona, a port of smuggling and secular misery.
The solo cast is led by Nataliia Matvieieva as Carmen, José Concepción as Don José, Frederico de Oliveira as Escamillo, and Núria Vilà as Micaela, joined by Danil Sayfullin, Alba Martínez, Maria Batlle, Jordi Casanova, Jordi Ferrer, and Néstor Pindado.
🏛️ Palau de la Música and artistic ensemble
The musical performance brings together the Orquestra de cambra Terrassa 48 under conductor Josep Miquel Mindàn, with Pere Bartolomé as concertmaster, and the Cor i ballet de l'Òpera Popular de Barcelona directed by Pablo Morales. Choreography is created by Kevin Donaire, inspired by the flamenco universe of Eli Ayala and Nacho Blanco, with the collaboration of students from the Conservatori Professional de Dansa de l'Institut del Teatre.
✨ A powerful operatic evening in the modernist heart of Barcelona.
