📖 Repression, mourning, and the quest for freedom

First premiered in Buenos Aires in 1945 by Margarita Xirgu's company, Lorca's drama depicts a suffocating atmosphere of domestic imprisonment. Following the death of her second husband, Bernarda imposes an unrelenting period of mourning upon her daughters, triggering deep tensions.

The script captures the sharp confrontation between tyrannical maternal authority and Adela's yearning for personal autonomy. This opposition delivers an incisive critique of social conventions, domestic oppression, and the destructive fixation on honor in rural society.

🎭 Lorca on the Gràcia stage

El Centre Gràcia brings this production to its venue on Carrer de Ros de Olano, celebrating the enduring legacy of the Generation of '27 writer whose work uniquely joined folk roots with modern artistic vision.

The performance brings to life the timeless struggle between rigid repression and the search for freedom, preserving the stark emotional power of Lorca's theatrical writing.

✨ An engaging opportunity to experience Lorca's classic tragedy in the heart of Gràcia.
