📖 Contemplation and dramatic abyss
The concert opens with the national premiere of Chant of Gratefulness by Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks, a meditative and spiritually intense work shaped by austere lyricism, resonant spaces, and deliberate silences.
This contemplative start gives way to the stark contrast of Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 4, Op. 43. Composed between 1935 and 1936, this radical and gripping score delivers a relentless world of grotesque irony and violence, deeply marked by official Soviet condemnation.
🎶 The artists
Led by conductor Andris Poga, the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya (OBC) tackles one of the most demanding and devastating symphonic works of the Russian master.
✨ An unmissable symphonic journey across two contrasting visions of the twentieth century.
