📖 The myth through Italian tradition

Bellini's opera departs from Shakespearean romanticism to immerse itself in the Italian tradition of factional strife, where hatred is an unavoidable destiny. In this tense and violent setting, the secret love between Giulietta and Romeo defies family honor and established social conventions.

For those surrounding them, loving each other is seen almost as an offense and a rupture in civic order, turning free affection into a quasi-sacrilegious gesture in a world ruled by pride and blood ties.

The vocal cast brings together Lisette Oropesa and Marina Monzó alternating as Giulietta, alongside Raffaella Lupinacci and Caterina Piva as Romeo. The principal cast is completed by Iván Ayón-Rivas and Antoni Lliteres as Tebaldo, Alejandro López as Capellio, and Marko Mimica as Lorenzo.
