📖 A visual account of infertility and hope
During the night of the last Saturday of August, at A Lanzada beach (Galicia), women wishing to become pregnant enter the sea to let nine waves break over their bellies. This fertility ritual turns sea water and wave movement into a symbol of renewal, life, and hope.
Drawing from this ritual, "Nine Waves" becomes an intimate narrative about the artist's years of infertility, searching, waiting, ritual, and uncertainty, told from a luminous and hopeful outlook. The project breaks the silence surrounding a taboo topic that has historically been scarcely addressed, defined by the World Health Organization as the inability to achieve pregnancy after twelve months of trying.
The work also brings visibility to an urgent future reality: estimates suggest that by 2050, 41% of men will be infertile, requiring assisted reproductive techniques.
