📖 Symbols, devotion, and authority
The Corpus Christi festival engaged all civic and ecclesiastical institutions of the city. It served as a moment of tribute to the Blessed Sacrament, but also as an occasion for splendor, ostentation, and authority; a space to see and be seen. Every object conveyed who carried it, their standing in the procession, and what they represented.
The exhibition is organized into five thematic sections: objects of the mythical realm (giants, beasts, monsters, and demons), objects of devotion (the monstrance, candles, torches, and tapers), objects of honor (vestments, accompaniments, and transformed spaces), objects of authority (identity, order, and precedence), and sensory objects (seeing, smelling, hearing, and tasting the feast).
🏛️ Living history at the Museu Diocesà
Albert Cortés explores how the people of Barcelona added, altered, or set aside these objects over seven centuries, charting the shifting relationships between faith, social classes, and community.
ℹ️ Good to know: Reduced rate (€6) for groups of 9 or more, verified students under 25, large or single-parent families, and pink or gold card holders.
