📖 The Construction of Female Identity
"Dear/d(ee)r Girls" is rooted in a personal experience: growing up in a predominantly male environment. Starting from this premise, Guasch suggests that the rejection of femininity does not originate from sexualisation or desire, but emerges much earlier, during childhood.
The exhibition reflects on how masculinity is frequently constructed in opposition to the feminine, framing it as synonymous with weakness or ridicule. The series draws from the artist's personal archive, blending adolescence snapshots with recent photographs in a non-linear narrative of reconstructed memories and sensations.
🎨 Blanca Guasch and Can Basté
This project is hosted by the Can Basté Photography Residency, a key space for photographic creation in Barcelona. The work delves into the marks left by one's upbringing and the social constructs surrounding gender.
✨ A moving visual introspection into the origins of womanhood and the power of memory.
