📖 Ballroom orchestra melodies on the carillon
The November concert, entitled "Un matí de tardor amb molt de cor", offers an evocative musical journey. The audience will be swept along by the charm of music from dance orchestras of the first half of the 20th century, performed on this unique bell instrument.
🎶 A historic instrument in Plaça de Sant Jaume
The Palau Carillon was inaugurated in December 1976 on the initiative of carillonneur M. Dolors Coll, who was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi in 2000 for her musical work and cultural promotion. It replaced the small 1927 carillon.
Crafted in the Netherlands by Petit & Fritsen, it features 49 bells and 4,898 kg of bronze. The bourdon bell weighs 905 kg and bears the name 'Catalunya'. It was restored in December 1991, and in October 2015 Eijsbouts renewed its keyboards.
ℹ️ Good to know: Registration closes the Friday before the concert.
