Beasts, devils, smoke and a rain of sparks right down Passeig de Gràcia. The correfoc is one of the most striking and colourful traditions of the city's festival. 🔥🐉

This year sees the debut of a new Gate of Hell, a structure designed by Daniel Esteban that will mark the start of the city's correfocs.

📖 How it unfolds

The route runs from Passeig de Gràcia at Provença down to Passeig de Gràcia at Consell de Cent.

It begins with the Ceptrotada, the moment when the ceptrots, pitchforks and banners carried by the groups are all lit at once. At that instant the new Gate of Hell opens and the fire beasts and their devils start pouring out.

👧 The children's correfoc

Earlier, from 6 pm to 7.45 pm along the same route, the children's correfoc takes place: the same fire and explosions, scaled down for younger participants. It is a first contact with gunpowder and the training ground for the correfocs of future Mercès.

ℹ️ Good to know: to get close and end up under the sparks you must wear cotton clothing covering arms and legs, closed shoes, a hat and eye protection. Follow the instructions of the groups and the stewards at all times. It is a magical event, but it demands caution.
