📖 Program and performers
The concert opens with Schicksalslied, Op. 54 (Song of Destiny), a piece for choir and orchestra premiered in 1871 based on a poem by Friedrich Hölderlin, contrasting the joyful destiny of celestial beings with the painful struggles of humanity. It is followed by A German Requiem, Op. 45, based on biblical texts, in which Brahms touches on a profound spirituality beyond purely religious boundaries.
The performance features soprano Lina Johnson and baritone Matthias Winckhler as soloists, alongside La Capella Nacional de Catalunya (prepared by Lluís Vilamajó) and Le Concert des Nations, with Lina Tur Bonet as concertmaster, Luca Guglielmi as assistant conductor, and Jordi Savall conducting.
